PHOTOREJUVENATION

TREATMENT TIME: 45 MINUTES
DOWNTIME: 2 – 3 days (pigmentation fades over a period of 1-2 weeks)

IPL used for skin rejuvenation has been around for a long time because it’s a highly effective treatment for pigmentation and redness in the skin. IPL technology continues to advance and we are proud to offer one of the most advanced IPL treatments available – Nordlys Ellipse advanced intense pulse light IPL by Candela Medical.

Ellipse IPL is a highly effective treatment targeting brown pigmentation – sun damage, freckles and age spots, and vascular conditions – diffuse redness and rosacea. Excess pigmentation and diffuse redness will dramatically reduce and skin texture and pore size will improve. The pigmentation will become darker in colour immediately after the treatment. A few days after the treatment the pigmented areas will develop a light crust (this is a good sign that the treatment has worked). After that the skin will look smoother, clearer and more even toned.

Ellipse IPL is suitable for light and medium skin types. One of our most popular laser treatments for clearer brighter skin.

Photorejuvenation (IPL) takes around 45 minutes to perform for a full face treatment. Ellipse IPL is much safer than other IPL devices on the market. Chosen for it’s high efficacy and safety profile, Ellipse offers a wider range of wavelengths and is safer for a broader range of skin types. Our therapists are highly experienced in performing IPL treatments for a broad range of skin conditions, and laser safety is of utmost importance in our clinic.

Not all IPL devices (and operators) are safe. Cheaper IPL devices paired with inexperienced operators are prevalent and can result in very serious burns and even scarring. Choose your clinic wisely.

We perform a lot of photorejuvenation (IPL) in our clinic and the treatment is tolerated well by most clients. Ellipse IPL is unique in that it is more comfortable than many other IPL treatments. For optimal client comfort, we offer complimentary topical numbing cream for most of our IPL treatments. Clients describe the treatment as a rubber band snapping lightly against the skin followed by a warm flash of light. After the treatment, the skin will feel like it’s mildly sun burned which should subside in a matter of hours.

Photorejuvenation (IPL) is non-invasive meaning the top layers of the skin are kept intact. Therefore, there is no significant ‘down time’ associated with the treatment. You will likely experience darkening of the pigment or redness in the skin following treatment – this is commonly described as the ‘milo’ or ‘coffee ground’ effect. This is normal, and a sign the treatment was effective. This will generally fade and ‘flake’ off within 1-2 weeks. The skin may be exfoliated to remove the darkened pigment to reveal clear beautiful skin.

You may return to your daily activities immediately after treatment and apply make up the next day.

It’s important you follow the post care instructions explained to you by your therapist following the treatment including the application of sunscreen.

Any area of the body can be treated with Ellipse photorejuvenation (IPL). The most common areas are the face, neck, back of hands, décolletage (chest) and neck but we also treat arms and legs or any other part of the body. Although you will see improvement in pigment and redness in the skin after your first treatment, a series of 3-5 treatments is usually recommended for best results.

Although you will likely see some improvement in your skin after your first treatment (in fact, you’re most likely to see a significant improvement after your first treatment), most people require 3-5 treatments for best results, with 3-4 weeks between treatments. You may need to return for maintenance treatments every 4-8 months depending on your skin care routine, exposure to sunlight and the ageing process. After an initial course of treatments, many of our clients incorporate photorejuvenation (IPL) treatment into their skin care routine 1-3 times a year for glowing skin all year round.
