There are two main difference between PicoWay skin rejuvenation and other laser skin treatments:

  1. Most lasers used to treat the visable signs of ageing (skin laxity, fine lines, wrinkles and pigment – sun damage, brown spots, freckles), use photothermal energy (heat) to treat the skin. These lasers work by causing a heat injury to the skin and although very effective for skin rejuvenation, they are associated with increased discomfort and risk, and downtime is commonly 2 – 14 days. The PicoWay laser uses sound wave energy rather than heat resulting in a more comfortable treatment with much less downtime. In most cases, you can apply make up the next day
  2. Laser skin treatments tend to only treat one or two skin complaints e.g. redness & pigment or fine lines and wrinkles. The PicoWay laser treats many skin complaints in the same treatment e.g. redness, pigment, fine lines, overall skin texture and pores, making it superior to other lasers

PicoWay skin rejuvenation is more comfortable when compared to other laser skin rejuvenation treatments. Utilisation of photomechanical energy (soundwaves) compared to thermal energy (heat) means less heat is delivered to the tissue and a more comfortable treatment. You will feel a ‘prickling’ sensation as the laser passes over the skin and increasing heat in the skin which dissipates quickly on completion of the treatment.

All laser treatments carry risks, this is unavoidable. However, because PicoWay skin rejuvenation does not use thermal heat to achieve results, the risk is much lower compared to many other device based skin rejuvenation treatments and most skin types can be treated with relatively low risk of hypo and hyperpigmentation.

Our dermal therapists are highly trained and experienced in all aspects of laser safety. They will discuss the risks of treatment during your first consultation.

The downtime for PicoWay laser skin rejuvenation is relatively low compared to similar laser skin treatments. You will feel heat in the skin immediately following treatment which will dissipate within 10-20 minutes. You can expect redness and mild tenderness (similar to mild sunburn) for approximately 24-48 hours after treatment. It’s common to experience a mild, itchy, bumpy patterning in areas of the treated skin. This tends to occur after your first treatment and is less likely to occur, or occurs more mildly, on subsequent treatments. Those with particularly sensitive skin experience this reaction more than those with less sensitive skin. An antihistamine is effective in calming the skin and can be taken before treatment and after treatment if desired.

In most cases, make up can be applied the next day. The results of the treatment are usually evident in 5-7 days.

PicoWay skin rejuvenation is a highly effective for all parts of the body. The most popular areas for treatment are – face, neck, décolletage, hands and arms and spot treatments to treat isolated patches of pigmentation. PicoWay skin rejvuenation is perfect for treating delicate areas such as backs of hands and the décolletage compared with other heat based treatments e.g. IPL. which often carry increased risk of burning and scarring.

3-6 treatments are recommended to see visible results in most clients but results are variable. PicoWay Resolve is so gentle it can be used once every 1-3 months to keep your skin looking clear, taut and plump all year round.
